International Class Cotton Seed Company

PAC catalyzed the development of an international level cotton seed company named SANIFA with guidance from some of the most renowned global experts in the field and equity participation of Sapphire, Nishat and Fatima groups. The varieties developed by SANIFA have achieved double the germination levels of existing varieties in the market and near 100% purity. SANIFA plans to commence its commercial operations starting 2019 season.

Electronic Trading Platform for Red Chillies

Through an electronic trading platform at the Pakistan Mercantile Exchange, PAC is facilitating the trading of Red Chillies, which has resulted in better profits and quicker payments for farmers. Since 2015, red chillies worth approximately USD 10 million have been traded through the e-Trading Platform so far. PAC aims to expand trading on this platform to export markets as well.

Agri-Collateral Management

PAC carried out pioneering Agri Collateral Management pilotsfor the wheat, rice and maize crops wherein farmers were provided loans while keeping their produce (not land) as collateral in a designated warehouse. This allowed farmers better access to formal credit from banks while also providing them better prices, on average, for their produce after storage at the warehouses. Building on the success of the pilots, a Collateral Management Company with equity participation from leading stakeholders in the agriculture sector is being set up.

BBA Agribusiness Degree Program

In early 2014, PAC brought about a collaboration between University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF), Faisalabad and Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Sukkur to develop a 4-year BBA Agribusiness program to bridge the gap in skills faced by Agricultural University graduates. The first batch graduated in 2018 with job placements at leading agro-processors and businesses in the country. The program’s success has prompted President Arif Alvi to direct HEC to replicate it in other universities.

Promoting mechanized rice cultivation in Pakistan

Improving farm productivity and cutting post-harvest losses (15-20%) present an opportunity for significantly increasing Pakistan’s rice exports. PAC has helped the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) develop such a program to implement key interventions required to achieve this target. The pilot project is already underway in Sindh for the 2019 rice seasonwhich would inform the design for its nationwide scale-up from 2020 onwards.
